Akismet Protects from Orange Spam
Akismet is Comment Spam protection service from Automattic. Akismet is primarily used as plugin for Wordrpress, but can also be used on number of web publishing platforms. Need convincing to install Akismet, head on to the Stat. Akismet protects you from Spam (Orange), while allowing legitimate comments.
Akismet is free for most personal blogs (described as blog making less than $500/month). Commercial blogs need to buy a license for $5/month. You need to create a WordPress.com account and create an API key to use the service.
Akismet is not without problem, You will see few legit comments being identified as spam while few spam will pass the spam test and will be shown in legit comments. However, Aksimet will learn from mistake and improve the algorithm. Another advantage with Akismet is that it is used on huge number on blogs, which provides Akismet developers with huge amount of data to test, review, validate, and improve the algorithm.
