An article from Bred Taylor titled “We need Wikipedia for Data“, created lot of buzz. As the name suggests article covers need to create freely licensed data that every programmer can access. Later, ReadWriteWeb summarized some of the projects already creating free data. Question remains are we ready to create something as big and useful as Wikipedia?
The idea is really exciting and will definitely open doors for flood of innovating web apps. But even with the all the success, Many people still don’t hit edit on Wikipedia. Also, Wikipedia is still prone to manipulation. Data creation and editing will be more complex process. Let us hope after few successes and failures, we will finally have free and useful access to our data.
