Firefox 3 Support for UPEK Fingerprint reader - Password Bank

If you recently installed Firefox 3 and were using UPEK Biometric fingerprint reader (Protector Suite QL/Fingerprint Reader Suite software), Passwordbank support may not have been installed in Firefox3 and Fingerprint reader will probably not work in Firefox.

You might get message below or something similar.

“Following browsers were found, but not supported in Password Bank
Too new browsers:
Firefox 3.0 (en-US)”

Installing Firefox 3 Browser Support

UPEK creates custom version of password manager software for PC vendors and distributes it directly thru them. So the updated software might be available directly from the Vendor sites (Amoi, IBM/Lenovo, Dell, Samsung, ASUS, Itronix, Sony, Gateway, MPC, Toshiba etc).

If there is no update from your PC vendor, here is the solution provided by UPEK. The patch has been released only for PS QL version 5.6.2 and 5.8.2. Make sure you have these versions and follow instructions. You can check the version by right clicking on Fingerprint reader suite (in taskbar) -> About. Then logon to Control Center -> User Settings -> Password Bank and make sure Firefox 3.0 is checked.

Thanks for this post! I’ve searched all over the Dell website, but never found this fix there.

Do you delete pbgk1_7.dll and pbgk1_8.dll, or do you just copy pbgk1_9.dll to the “browser” sub directory? Thanks for your comments.

    Hi

I have logon to Control Center -> User Settings -> Password Bank but I am not having Firefox 3.0 in the list of Browsers. I can only find Internet Explorer there.

Please guide what can be done in this case

Nitin, That’s because Firefox 3.0 support is not installed. Please, follow instructions to install support.

I’m with Nitin on this one. This Firefox 3.0 support thingy doesn’t work fpr me either. Is it maybe that it doesn’t support other language versions… just the english one? Because even after saving the two files in the right directories it just doesn’t work! Any ideas?

I have just spoken with Toshiba support and the 5.6.2 version of the Protector Suite is not available from them, for Satellite P200s, and they won’t say if and when it will be (the latest on their website is 5.6.0). It appears to be available for the A215 range (which are AMD machines) do you think it will work for me if I download that version?

I have just tried. Nope. The version of 5.6.2 on the Toshiba website doesn’t come with the (apparently optional) password bank. Drzzzt
