Cuil, a New Search Engine, launched today claiming to be better and more comprehensive than Google. Cuil is taking a different and refreshing approach to search. Search results are displayed in columns with more summaries of search results (downside being fewer results per page). Related searches are shown in tabs. Categories are also shown to fine tune results. Cuil has arguably found a way to index web for lower cost and that way they can index more pages faster than current search engines.
I got a mixed feeling trying Cuil. Problogger was not in first page results for ‘Blogging for Money’. Most search engines ignore common words such a, an, and, the, for etc. Cuil seems to care about these words (eg. For in ‘Blogging for Money’). Cuil didn’t even show any results for some of the search queries. This was may be because of the reason that Cuil was crashing quite often. It didn’t even show page 2 and onwards for ‘Blogging for Money’ query.
Even though Cuil’s first impression is mostly unimpressive, the product is quite new. As Cuil fixes issues and improves, it may be a serious contender.
